What is an Arabic AI chatbot?

An Arabic AI chatbot is an AI agent that understands customers writing in Arabic and answers them in Arabic, from your business's own content. Aivastark's agent reads Arabic script, English and Arabizi (Arabic typed in Latin letters and numbers, such as “3ndkom delivery?”), replies in the language and script the customer used, and transcribes Arabic voice notes on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram and answers them in writing.

The problem

Why Arabic trips up most chatbots

Customers write Arabic three ways: in Arabic script, in Arabizi with numbers standing in for letters, and mixed with English. They write in Gulf, Levantine or Egyptian dialect rather than the formal Arabic most bots are tuned for, and many send voice notes instead of typing. A bot that answers Arabizi in Arabic script, or Arabic in English, reads as if it didn't understand. Aivastark's agent is told to answer each message in the language and script it arrived in.

Reply in kind

Arabic script, English or Arabizi: the reply follows

The agent reads each message on its own and answers in its language and script: Arabic script gets Arabic, English gets English, and Arabizi gets Arabizi. If a customer switches mid-chat, the reply switches with them. It is guided behaviour, so test it with your own questions before going live.

Voice notes

Arabic voice notes, answered in writing

On WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram a voice note is transcribed and answered like a typed message, in the customer's language. Set Voice messages to Arabic in Agent Settings if most of your customers speak Arabic, so short notes aren't mistaken for another language.

  • Transcribed on four channels

WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram voice notes become text the agent answers.

Your content

Arabic questions, answered from an English website

You don't need an Arabic copy of your website. An Arabic-script question is translated into your knowledge base's language before the search, the right passage is found, and the answer is written back in Arabic. Arabizi is searched as typed, so Arabic product names on your pages help.

  • Translated before the search

Handoff

“حولني لموظف”: a person takes over

With human handoff on, an Arabic request for a person hands the chat to your team with the whole thread, the same as an English one. Arabic words for a lawyer, fraud or a formal complaint escalate it too. Your team answers from one inbox, and can translate an English draft into Arabic before sending it.

Know before you start

Where it can still go wrong

This is guided behaviour, not a guarantee, and it is better to know the edges before your customers find them.

  • Replies lean toward standard Arabic

It understands everyday dialect in most messages, but its Arabic replies tend toward Modern Standard Arabic rather than matching a customer's Gulf, Levantine or Egyptian dialect.

  • Guided, not guaranteed

Now and then a reply can come back in the wrong language or script. Test it with your own questions before going live.

  • No voice replies

Voice notes are answered in text; the agent doesn't send audio back on any channel.

  • Arabizi is searched as typed

Arabic-script questions are translated before the search; Arabizi isn't, so add Arabic names for key products if customers search with them.

FAQ

Questions about an Arabic AI chatbot

Can an AI chatbot reply in Arabic?

Yes. Aivastark's agent answers a message written in Arabic script in Arabic, from your own website, documents and catalogue. It also answers English in English and Arabizi in Arabizi, and follows the customer if they switch language mid-chat. It is guided behaviour, so test it on your own questions before going live.

What is Arabizi, and can the chatbot read it?

Arabizi is Arabic typed with Latin letters and numbers, where 3 stands for ع, 7 for ح and 2 for ء, as in “3ndkom delivery?”. Many customers in the Gulf type this way on WhatsApp. Aivastark's agent reads it and replies in the same style rather than switching to Arabic script.

Does it understand Gulf Arabic dialect?

It understands everyday dialect phrasing in most messages, from the Gulf, the Levant and Egypt. Its own Arabic replies tend toward Modern Standard Arabic rather than copying the customer's dialect, which most customers read without trouble.

Can it answer Arabic voice notes on WhatsApp?

Yes. Voice notes on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram are transcribed and answered in text. Set Voice messages to Arabic in Agent Settings so short notes are read as Arabic. The agent replies in writing, not with audio, and asks for a note again if it can't be transcribed.

My website is in English. Can it still answer in Arabic?

Yes. An Arabic-script question is translated into your knowledge base's language before the search, and the answer is written back in Arabic. Arabizi questions are searched as typed, so Arabic names for your main products help.

Can I limit the chatbot to Arabic and English?

Yes. In Reply languages choose Arabic and English and put your main one first; a message in any other language is answered in that main language. Leave the setting empty to answer every customer in their own language.

Does the chat show Arabic right to left?

Yes. On your website the chat widget lays each Arabic paragraph out right to left and aligns it to the right, while English in the same chat stays left to right. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger show Arabic right to left as they always do.

Can my team reply in Arabic if they don't write it?

Yes. In the inbox an incoming Arabic message has a one-tap Read in English, and a teammate can write the reply in English and translate the draft into Arabic before sending it. The customer's messages are stored as they wrote them.
